Stella/Cedar

Stella/Cedar

Just thought I would let you know that "Cedar" (we changed her name from "Stella") is doing absolutely wonderfully!!!  She is so great, we are very lucky!

As I am a social worker at a long term care facility, Cedar goes to work with me every day and puts her little paws up on the residents laps in their wheelchair so gently and sweetly.  As I walk the facility with Cedar, many of them call her name and want to say "hi" to her.  Cedar even brightened the day of a resident who I was visiting and was in tears.  Cedar put her paws up on the foot board of her bed and showed her sweet face and the resident just said "oh, even Cedar knows it will be all right so I suppose I should too".  It was very precious!
She and Brenna get along famously.  Brenna likes her to come on her bed in the morning to wake her up and Cedar loves to give her many kisses.  We took Cedar to Brenna school because she wanted to show her off to all her friends.  They run together and Cedar loves the snow so they play fetch with snowballs and Cedar usually gets there first.  We all go on many walks, usually morning and night.  Good for us too!
The training is coming along.  Still working on the housebreaking.  She does very well, does have an accident every now and again - but rarely.  She is learning to heal, to sit, and that she cannot beg at the dinner table.  She likes to ride in the car and loves to play fetch with a ball Brenna picked out for her.  She is quite the "sniffer" - can find a dead bird from a mile away!  She would be a good drug sniffing dog at the airport cause her nose is so fine tuned!  She is good with cats - unless they run, then Cedar considers them fair "game"! haha.
We were visiting family this weekend and she did great in a new place and played with their dog a lot - it was so fun to see!  She was good with a lot of people around, and even a toddler!   Although she still thinks all the kid toys are for her too, she is good about letting them go when we tell her to "leave it".
All in all, I am so grateful to you for saving her.  I feel sorry for whoever owned her before (if anybody) but obviously they did not keep her safe.  She is curled up on my lap now- all cuddled up in blanket 'cause we gave her a bath earlier.  So soft and cute!
Sorry for the long email but just want you to understand that you have made a difference in our lives - we just love Cedar! She loves everyone and she is loved by all who meet her!
Keep up the terrific work you do!  Jennifer, Scot, Brenna and Cedar!

Rocko/Ramsay

Rocko/Ramsay

March 11th was one full month since we adopted Ramsay, and I thought I'd give you an update.

He's grown! He's going to be a stout, husky fellow. He's never had an accident in the house, and is nearly 100% leash-trained. He loves to ride in my truck, and is a very good boy when riding shotgun. Every morning, we walk 4 miles together from 5:30-6:45am, and every evening he goes for a 2 mile run with his dad. We live on 160 acres, 80 of which are wooded and border the Flathead River. So, he's got lots of exploring to do. At night, he prefers to sleep in his crate and is always easy to put to bed.

He likes his older sister the hound, but she's less than amused with his playfulness! He would love to play with the cat, but her attitude is less than Christian!

He's just about perfect, except for the German streak of stubbornness that runs in his bloodstream! We've only had a couple of disciplinary "time-outs" and if I could just get him to quit the playful biting, he'd be set!

Thank you, for taking such good care of him. We love him dearly.
Mickey Lapp

Greetings!

I have had the busiest year since you all saved my life.  I joined my new family in Missoula and am happy to report that I like them very much and I know they love me.  My fetching skills have improved considerably and it turns out I really love to swim.  I even have my own wading pool but it’s in the garage for the winter.  This last summer/fall, once I was big enough, I went with my humans on some backpacking trips.  Since I’m not a very big dog I can usually find room for myself in their sleeping bags.  In case you didn’t know, I’m pretty smart and I excel at lots of dog tricks … and I can jump over four feet.  (I have a lot of dog friends too!)  Thanks again for everything.  I miss you all!  Love, Ginsing

P.S.  Written with the help of my humans Kurt Ingold and Courtney Shanahan

After many months in a foster home, Quinta found the perfect home in March.  Levi is so happy with the dog he brought her to PetSmart for us to see how well she's doing ... perfect!

Molly Luann

Thought I should give you an update on Molly Louann.  She is doing very well.  Dr. Bostwick has her epilepsy well under control and she is on her life-long dose of potassium bromide.  That means no seizures; just busy days with me and her sister Angel.  We walk, we supervise everything that goes on around here.  I don’t know what we would do without our dear, sweet Molly.  Thank you for helping us find each other and Happy Holidays.

Adara

Hi there,  Thought I'd send you some photos of Adara, the spaniel cross that we adopted from you.  We are still absolutely in love with her and she continues to be a delight to our entire family.    She is right around 6 months old now  -  hasn't grown a lot, so it would seem that she will stay fairly small, which is exactly what we wanted since our other dog, Micah, an Akita cross, is plenty big.  She of course loves going for walks and since we live on a large piece of land here in Big Arm, they are allowed to run to their hearts content on our walks.  Adara loves to run back and forth between myself and Micah, who likes to track, above or below us, smelling for critters.  She is very smart and very aware of me at all times, often stopping when she gets too far ahead of me on the trail, to wait until I catch up.  All it takes is a short whistle or call and she comes running to me immediately.  In fact, she is so well behaved she has actually helped to bring some better behavior to Micah, who has been somewhat of a challenge to us since the day she ran into our backyard as a little puppy, crying in despair because someone had dumped her.  They are the best of friends and are playing together right now in the backyard as I type this email.  We love them both so much and they bring such great joy to our life.  We believe that they have been given to us by God, as constant, loyal, loving companions.     Thank you again for all you do!

With Love,  Shatari and Steven Zamzow, Micah, Adara, Ramela and Kaliflower

Roxy

Thought I would pass on a photo of Roxy.  I don't remember her name at the shelter but she goes by Roxy now.  We enjoy having Roxy; she has developed a good personality and is a lot of fun.  I thought you would enjoy seeing that she has picked up weight and is doing well.  I expect that you have many success stories, no doubt because of the effort and compassion of your shelter.

Scrappy aka Scoe

My name is Dax VanFossen and I live in Kalispell.  I just wanted to write a letter and let you know how one of your adoptions is doing.  A little over two years ago, I adopted my Plott Hound/ Beagle Roscoe P. Coaltrain (formerly Scrappy) from LSAR in Polson.  And I wanted to thank you for That.  He is my buddy.  We go fishing and swimming  together....and just about everything else.  He also loves to watch  the Dukes of Hazard, which is where he was named.  I call him Scoe for  short.  He has a great life up here in the Flathead, and that's thanks  in no small part to what you do.  So from Roscoe and I....Thank you.

Peter Pan & Wendy

2006

We accepted foster care of Peter Pan and Wendy last June. They were nicknamed Wibble and Wobble because Peter has neuroplasia and Wendy looked like a Parkinson’s patient after being anesthetized for spay surgery. Peter still has to plan his approach to going up stairs or pouncing on what he aims at, but the only sign of problems with Wendy is if she is stressed or startled. We decided to adopt them in August when we realized most people wouldn’t jump at the chance to take them on and my daughter and I found them totally loveable, funny and charming. Peter (Wobble) has surprised us all by being a mighty hunter. Despite having trouble landing where he aims he is a great catcher of snakes and voles - even better than his more agile friend, Wendy. They are still in that very playful kitten stage where nothing is safe or sacred from their curiosity, but when we are not laughing we just pick up what we don't want them to have and enjoy their company.  Peter Pan and Wendy may very well decide to never grow up and stay in Never Never Land, but that is alright with us.

Big Boy/Otto

Big Boy/Otto

I just wanted to give you an update on my adoption.  I adopted Otto, formerly known as Big Boy, a little less than a year ago and he is going GREAT!  On Saturday, he will officially be one year old.  And boy, has he grown since I adopted him.  I thinking his original name of Big Boy fit him well!  Otto has a love for the outdoors just as I have.  Most recently he has learned to ride in a kayak with me.  And how I managed to stay dry, well I will never know!  Just last night my boyfriend, Mike; Otto; and myself took the canoe out for one last float before winter sets in.  Otto also LOVES swimming and playing fetch.  Since he discovered water, I can’t seem to keep him out of it until he needs a bath of course!  I just wanted to say thanks again!  Otto is HUGE part of my life and I owe that to you!  Laura & Otto J

Muggs

Thank you for your, and all the members of LSAR, for the work you do.  Because of it we have a great cat family member.  We adopted "Muggs" from LSAR in October of 2004.  We thought he looked more like a "Simon" so he goes by that.  Two years ago our vet did an ultrasound and told us Simon probably had stomach cancer and without treatment might only live 1 - 3 months.  We took him home and decided on "comfort care" without treatment or chemo.  I basically wrote Simon's obituary to the man we adopted him from (Brian).  Our vet was surprised when we brought Simon in a year later for his rabies shot, thinking for sure he had died.  Apparently he is in some sort of "remission" or his illness has yet to progress significantly.  We still have him with us, and while he is kind of a brat sometimes  :o)   he has definitely enriched our lives.  He is just beautiful and has so much personality and loves to play; a lady I work with was like "why are you keeping that cat around if he's throwing up on your stuff all the time?"  Then she met him; later she told me she understood completely that he was something special.  We put laminate flooring down instead of the carpet and he and our other little girl (cat) play and play, and chase and chase, and slide after their toys... Both cats really have us wrapped around their tails and one cat would not be complete without the other.  We call Simon, "Simon the Pie-man" because he makes pies (by kneading on us) and purring; of course only when it's his idea (in the middle of the night.... or some other suitably inconvenient time) - so thank you for giving him another chance at having a home, we think he likes us pretty well.  Sincerely, Amber

Lexi

Lexi

Hi....This is Mary Sue. I adopted one of the Shar-Pei/Staffordshire puppies! I just wanted to send you a new picture of Lexie to let everyone see how she's grown. I have to say this is by far the smartest dog I've ever owned. She literally housebroke herself in less than a week. We showed her the doggie door once, and then she caught on so quick it was amazing!

She is so affectionate, smart, playful, and sassy! She has so many toys, and she knows where every one of them is. But she insists on dragging them out the doggie door to the fenced in yard. You pick them up, and she knows it somehow. She'll notice that their not outside, so she prances up to the toys, and drags some more out. You can't get away with anything with her. She is amazing!

I could not have asked for a better companion. She is with me all the time. And she knows when I say "well its bedtime" she'll go and put her front paws on my bed, and I help her up, and she gets comfy on her comforter which lies at the end of my bed, and out like a little light she goes. Sometimes she'll come and cuddle up next to me, and put her head on the crook of my arm. These moments are unforgettable.

Thank you so much for letting us adopt her! I could not imagine life without her!!!!

Sincerely, Mary Sue

Rodney aka Captain Jack

Rodney was a stray when he came to the Tribal Animal Control Officer. After three days he was brought to LSAR, but he got loose and no one could catch him. As far as he knew, he was running for his life. Down the street a woman befriended him and took four days of carefully getting to know him and gain his trust before she picked him up and returned him. So now, with an unexpected new lease on life, he has been neutered, wormed, vaccinated and micro-chipped. He is still scared of all the changes and will take more TLC to come out of his shell, but all eleven pounds of him will be pure companion to the person who can take the time and love to get to know him.  Update July 2007: Greetings from Minnesota!  I just wanted to send a few pictures of Jack with his new buddies (Bear, our Shih-Tzu and Charlie, our old lab).  He has settled in so, so well.  He is far exceeding my expectations.  He loves his walks, plays off leash in the yard, and never goes out of sight.  He is so trust-worthy and doesn't have any desire to leave.  He is doing so well that he even went to the dog park.  He loved playing with a Bassett and wore himself out.  He is rapidly stealing hearts. I will never be able to thank you enough for finding and keeping Jack a.k.a. Rodney.  He is a true little gem and is beginning to shine.  Very brightly at that! Please give our best to everyone in Montana!
Lots of love Suzie and Capt. Jack

Update November 2007:

Thought I would let you know Rodney  is doing very well.  He is a little hesitant around some people but loves other dogs and trips to the dog parks.  He goes with me everywhere and loves being a co-pilot.  I love him with all my heart.  He has become a wonderful little guy and the best snuggler.  Thank you so much.  Suzie

Ceicily & Daize

Ceicily & Daize

Daize (aka Maize) is doing great....she is her wonderful obnoxious puppy self!!  Pushes me out of bed, hogs my chair, has to go everywhere with us (can't pick up a set of keys without her being right there.  :-)) I am sorry I don't have a picture to send today but I will try to take some if she and Bones ever slow down.  She gets along great with everyone and everything and loves being able to work cattle for my sister in law when we go to her ranch.  Quite the dog.  She has a wonderful personality, patient with kids, loves to snuggle under the blankets, etc.  She is a barker and hates being left behind....and lets me know about it!!  Can't even go to the bathroom by myself!! Hee hee; we love her.  She and I are taking the Puppy class at Petsmart and she is doing wonderful. Just loves to socialize and eat.  And boy, can this girl eat!!  You would think she was never fed the way she gobbles up food.  She also has done a wonderful job keeping the mice population under control.  Just surprises me that she knows how to mouse without anyone teaching her.  Her "sister" Bones, aka Ceicily, was adopted from Life Savers last October.  They are two peas in a pod.  Gotta keep an eye on them or they will trash the house when they get to playing.  They are rough and tumble and love to run laps out the door, around the house, back in the door, back to the bedrooms and back out again.  Two very happy dogs.  I am so glad we adopted them.  Thanks again.  Susan M Craun

Santos

Santos was adopted in 2005.

Update March 2007:

Thought you'd like to know as of this Saturday Santos passed his test to become an official Registered Therapy Dog with the Delta Society.  His paper work will go in tomorrow.  Please know how grateful I am to have him.  Thanks again and may many blessings come your way.

Montana Monroe

All adoptions are great; some a little more exciting than others; Murano’s was one of those. Heather saw the puppy on the internet and after many e-mails and phone calls was on her way from Orcas Island, WA to Polson for her new “baby”. This was no easy trip; ferry from the Island then rent a car for the drive. The weather was terrible and she didn’t arrive until late at night. Foster Mom Bonnie was gracious enough to put her up for the night and provide toast and coffee for her trip home. Heather will drive to Spokane then fly home the same day (she wanted to make the trip as short as possible so the puppy wouldn’t be stressed). Renamed “Montana Munroe”, his new mentor will be Murphy, a 9-year old Golden Retriever and his wonderful human family.
Update: We are doing just terrific here with Monroe.
We love him to pieces and things are going great. His cough went away in
about four days and about ten days later we gave him his final round of
shots, so now he can be as social as he wants. Boy does he love people and
dogs so much. We've had great success crate training so far and he loves
being Murphy's (our golden retriever) shadow. Murphy is helping him with
learning his commands. They have sit, down and stay mastered. His ears go up
and down with the day and are a good indication of his mood. Mostly we are
just so grateful to you all for rescuing him and his mom and letting him
become part of our family.

Thanks so much for checking in!

Camper

Camper

Camper’s story started out sad, got worse, but ended on a high note. She was found with porcupine quills in her nose and had an infected spay scar. Then she was hit by a car and suffered head trauma. Despite the several surgeries that followed, she kept her sweet and happy disposition, giving us hope that we could find her a loving home. Update May 2007:  Camper and I attended beginning obedience and Camper tied for third place.  She is a fast learner and appears to enjoy learning.  She is such a people friendly dog, I am  planning on getting her certified as a therapy dog.  I also want her to try agility.  She is getting along with the other dogs and is learning not to chase the cats.  Jennifer.

There are many people to thank here: The gentleman that found her in the first place, Southshore Veterinary Service for her extensive care, our LSAR volunteers for hanging in there and believing in her, Jennifer for offering her love and a new home and (although she’s not a person) Camper for proving that miracles do happen.

Razzle Dazzle

Razzle Dazzle

When Tina and Kim spotted Razzle Dazzle on the internet, they sent the following inquiry:  “Recently our best friend Roo passed away after being with us for over 16 years and we have been just devastated without her. She was the sweetest ragdoll mix.  As hard as it is to imagine, I think the only way to begin to fill the huge void is to find a new critter to love”.  “We live in Seattle, WA but will travel to the ends of the earth for anyone we love.  Please let us know of Razzle Dazzle is still available”.  Attached were pictures of Roo who was most definitely the cutest ragdoll ever.  After many e-mails and phone calls to Terri the foster Mom, Tina and Kim flew from Seattle to Spokane where they rented a car and then drove to Polson to pick up Razzle Dazzle.  They were not disappointed.  Here’s their follow-up:  “We think there must be some mistake, apparently we did not adopt a kitty but rather a puppy or maybe a monkey…we have not determined which!  Razzle fetches and follows us around like a dog and she hams it up like a circus monkey.  She must be part bird too since she chirps sometimes and flies through the air.  Mostly she acts like a kangaroo.  She hops around and sits upright and stretches her head up real tall…maybe she is part gopher?  The only thing we know for sure is that she is Purrrrrfect and the sweetest girl full of personality!! “

Meca aka Kita

Dear Sonja and all at Life Savers Animal Rescue,
Thank you so much for rescuing Kita, as our girls have renamed her; she is a great addition to our family. We took her to meet our Vet Dr. Doug Raines at Faithful Friends, and he said we had an awesome dog and she came out with a clean bill of health, and is weighing in at 63 ½ pounds! She loves to do all of the things that we, as an active family enjoy. We have been swimming lots and have gone on several hikes when it's not raining. She has the best personality, and we couldn't have asked for a better dog with the girls.  Sadie our other dog is so happy to have a friend and now they are inseparable, Kita wants to go everywhere with her. We went out to Murdoch's and let her pick out some toys, but it seems she is much more interested in doggy biscuits, so we got her a Kong toy and she thinks it's pretty interesting to have to get the treat out, but it has curbed her enthusiasm to chew on the coffee table. Thank you all so much for everything you have done for her and if there is anything we can do for you please let us know!  God Bless, the Riehl's

Sydney

Teresa and Wes drove from Galata to do a triple pick-up of kittens from LSAR.

Sydney will be their kitten and here’s their update from last night.

“We've been home about 21 minutes:
1) she has used the kitty litter (YEA)
2) she has been in the bathtub
3) she has searched out the upstairs and the downstairs
4) she has been to the top of the big tree house---she loves it
5) she is getting used to Kloey (dog) and has met 1 cat (went just fine)
6) we already love her”

They also picked up Bump (for a relative) and Summer (for a co-worker).  This was better than a win-win!

Pablo aka Shadey & Banjo

Pablo aka Shadey & Banjo

Hi, Scott & Sheila (surrogate puppy parents!).  Pablo (aka “Shadey”) and Banjo are doing great and will be 11 weeks old this Saturday.  The picture below shows them at 9 weeks and they have doubled in size at least.  Healthy, playful, full of mischief – I’m so glad I got them both as they are great company for each other.  They had their first vet visit last week and that went well.  They love going for long walks (I have a double leash that works pretty well to keep them from getting tangled up and look forward to when they are trained enough that we can go off-leash).  Pablo seems to have a good nose and loves following the scents that are plentiful on our 40 acres.  Both are connoisseurs of various types of manure and with 60 free-ranging chickens, 5 horses, a dozen or so cats that come and go, and all the rabbits and deer that pass through, it’s like Baskins & Robbins for dogs!  So I’m trying to convince them it’s more interesting to WALK instead of just dashing between piles of poop. They are a joy to me.  Thanks again for giving them such a great start!  - Terri John and the boys (from Helena) Update 5/29/07: Pablo is quick, intelligent, strong willed and playful. Banjo is sweet, gentle, and affectionate, a bit timid at times but at others quite tenacious. They are a good balance for each other and constant companions. I like it when they have their "talking sessions" - they will be staring at each other and Pablo will start howling and Banjo barking, both at the top of their lungs. At first I thought something else had gotten them excited, but when they do this they're not looking anywhere but at each other so I think it's their own little game. One of the many things they do that makes me laugh!

Lance

Donna Allen originally rescued Lance in Kalispell.  She designed a special kennel so that he couldn’t escape (his favorite trick), and subsequently placed him. But his owners had to turn him over to the Mission Valley Animal Shelter in Polson after about a year because he kept escaping. This time he was placed with a local lady, and that adoption lasted four years, during which time he escaped from her yard numerous times (but always came back). Last July he escaped one time too many and she said, “no more, find him a new home if you can."  He was housed at a local vet clinic for two months before going to a foster home in Lakeside.  He did very well there (though he did escape from that yard too), but an unhappy neighbor threatened to shoot him so that ended that, which was unfortunate because it was a perfect fit. The family loved Lance and he got to go for daily walks/hikes and play with the other family dog. From there he went to the Missoula Humane Society for a couple of weeks, but no one seemed interested and we thought it was “curtains” for this great dog. But at the 11th hour, Pat O’Buck agreed to adopt him. He will join several other rescue dogs and cats at this wonderful retirement home in Plains. There are many people to thank for saving Lance's life:  Donna, Samantha, Polson Animal Clinic, Sonja (for her 6-month foster), Pat and yes, myself.  Linda Crawford - Life Savers Animal Rescue.

Loyal

And this note from foster "mom" Sheila:

This is what makes our job the BEST JOB IN THE WORLD!!!!!!  I wouldn't even call it a job, I guess it's more like something that drives you and is so heart warming.  I am so grateful to meet all you guys,  thanks for all you do, you guys are so great!  Sheila

Loyal

Imagine having your own personal pilot fly you to Washington to your new home. That's exactly what happened to Loyal. Spotted on the website, Heather, Loyal's new "mom" had her brother Mathew fly in to pick up the kitten. Were we thrilled, you betcha !

Update from Heather:

Hi Sheila,
I just wanted to let you know that we got Loyal Friday night. We renamed him Sunny.  My husband and I had a deal that I could pick the cat if he got a say in his name. I can't begin to tell you how much we are enjoying him. He is so cute and such a nice little kitty. He is having fun exploring and getting to know Duncan (our other cat).  This morning they were playing together on the cat tree we have. Sunny is so sweet and affectionate. I feel so blessed to have him.  On Friday night I set up his food and water and a little litter box in our bathroom so he wouldn't have to be overwhelmed by the whole house. I got him settled in and stayed by him till he fell asleep. A few minutes after I crawled in bed. He came and joined me. He curled up by my head and purred and purred. (Right now he is walking from my lap to the desk and all over the keyboard). I'm taking some pictures today and plan to email my family tomorrow with photos of the newest member of our family. I will send some to you as well. Thank you again for everything. Heather Wimer

Carmella's Story

Carmella was brought to us (at the local Vet. Clinic where I work) by a policeman who answered a call about a man shooting a gun . Carmella was chasing this man's chickens .  So Carmella ended up at the city pound under law enforcement orders. We at the vet clinic got her released to be adopted, because no owner reclaimed her. This is when I read an email about a lady that loves shepherd type dogs. ----Diane Parker LSAR-----

Patches & Sparks

Patches (formerly Moe Joe) and Sparks joined our family in August when they were about 5 months old.  They were very socialized even after a rough start in life.  We are so grateful to Life Savers for saving these kitties.  Our home had never been without cats and after the death of our last old cat (19 years) we were looking for new kitties to fill the void.  Boy, have they ever done that!   We introduced them slowly to our four lovable dogs (all also very old) and we were a little apprehensive that they would be intimidated by all the activity, but we soon discovered that these two special kitties were in fact the intimidators.  They made themselves right at home in just a few days and soon began the task of exploring and demolishing.  They have not slowed down at all and love all the space and freedom they have.  They have such different personalities and are a joy to be with.  Sparks (the male) has a crooked, broken tail and is very vocal and “in your face sort,” whereas Patches is petite, purrs softly and loves to snuggle quietly.  We enjoy seeing them discover new wonders daily. Their greatest fun is playing chase up and down the loft and basement stairs. They are indoor cats and have just recently discovered the bird feeding station we have moved onto the deck for the winter.  We are so fortunate to have them and it’s been a delight to have kittens again after 20 years!
